Company
History
Pandora's Box Theatre
Company, originally based in Suffolk, was set up at the start of the new
millennium by professional actors Ian Sanders and Katy Secombe.
Remembering what it was like to be inspired as children when first introduced to
theatre and music, they set about writing and producing theatre shows
specifically aimed at the under 10's. The intention of the company was and is
still today to stimulate young imaginations using storytelling, humour, music,
slapstick, puppetry and magic, all wrapped up in the wonderful world of
'Theatre'.
Treasure Hunt, written by Ian and
Katy, was the first Pandora's Box show and was designed to "open the lid of the
imagination" of children.
The company toured this show between 2000 and 2003 to theatres, arts centres,
festivals, schools and libraries.
Burglar Bill, came
next and really put the company on the map. The show was a huge critical success
with children & grown-ups and sold out at a majority of the venues it played.
The original touring schedule of twelve months was extended to over two years as
it is proved such a popular choice for theatres, arts centres, festivals and
schools across the UK. Venues included Bristol Old Vic, Tricycle Theatre,
Theatre Royal Bath, Yvonne Arnaud Guildford, Harlow Playhouse, Jackson's Lane
Highgate and Wimbledon Theatre.
The following two shows Little Red Riding Wolf and Pirate School
continued this success, making Pandora's Box a regular feature on the Children's
Theatre circuit.
In 2004 the
company also produced their first Christmas show at the Charles Cryer Theatre in
Carshalton, Surrey. Katrina The Smallest Christmas Tree was in residency
there for three weeks and the following year it split the Christmas run between
Jackson's Lane Theatre, Compass Theatre and Lincoln Drill
Hall.
Katrina toured theatres, arts centres and schools in 2006, while the
latest Pandora's Box Christmas show Mister Humbug took place in London
and Ickenham.
2007 has seen the expansion of the partnership of Ian & Katy to include team members Melissa, Rob and Colin, who are now taking on the running of the company from it's new London base.
The future looks bright and the work of Pandora's Box gets more diverse and interesting each year, but our mission is still to give children an unforgettable theatrical experience that may be their very first exposure to live theatre.
